The first night of the inaugural ERA Championships was electrifying.  As cowboys and cowgirls, we take pride in the fact that we start our events off with the National Anthem.  This night was a little different, being Veterans Day.  The rodeo began with the singing of God Bless America.  The next order of business was very important especially on this day.  The Veterans were recognized while the entire arena was filled with the crowd singing our Nation's song.

What better way to come into the first round than being armed and ready.  That is just what Steer Wrestler Bray Armes did. Armes took the win for the round with a time of 3.97 seconds.  The run was made to look effortlessly.  "It's so exciting to be here because of all of the hard work we've put into the ERA.  It was a special moment getting to back in the box at the inaugural round.  Then to win it was just icing on the cake" said Armes.

In the event of Steer Wrestling a lot of emphasis is put on the hazer that is chosen, along with the steer that was drawn, and the cowboy himself.  Bray Armes gives his hazer a great amount of appreciation for helping to make great runs.  Armes recaps the run by saying "I got a good start, Matt Reeves had him picked up for me right there, and I just did my job after that."  With a good steer, seasoned hazer and a good mind Armes got the job done.

This first round win added 600 points to the total that Armes had brought into the Championships.  He came in sitting 4th in the World Standings with 2000 points.  In fourth place Bray Armes was only 275 points away from Tyler Pearson coming in first.  Being so close in the standings, predictions of the ERA Champion will be very difficult to be made.

There were many other cowboys and cowgirls who were extremely excited with tonight's performance.  Bull Riding was won by Chandler Bownds with 85 points.  Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill capitalized with a 4.05 second Team Roping run.  85.5 points brought Cort Sheer to the winners circle in the Saddle Bronc Riding.  Kassie Mowry was the fastest lady in the Barrel Racing with a 12.91 second run.  6.95 seconds is how fast Caleb Smidt went to the buckle presentation in the Tie-Down Roping.  Wes Stevenson scored an 82.5 to win the night's performance in the Bareback Riding.  With all contestants and stock giving it all they had, the rest of the weekend will be one for the books!
