Tuesday (December 6th, 2016) night during the 6th round of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo the 2016 Resistol Rookie of the Year awards were handed out. The Resistol Rookie of the Year is determined by the first year card holder that wins the most money in each event. The following people were recognized:

The Bull Riding Resistol Rookie of the year is yet to be decided because two rookies qualified for the WNFR. The bull riding Resistol Rookie of the Year will be determined and awarded after the 10th Round. The 2016 Resistol Rookie of the Year in the Bull Riding is between Roscoe Jarboe, New Plymouth, Idaho and Garrett Tribble, Bristow, Okla.
