Shiozawa Earned $2M, Cress Was 90.5 & Kimzey Is No. 1: The Numbers Of March

One man crossed a career milestone, one has scored the highest, and one continues to reign supreme in his event.

Here’s a look at how the numbers broke down during the month of March.

1 New $2 Million Man

Matt Shiozawa passed the incredible milestone of earning $2 million in his rodeo career in the month of March. The Chubbuck, Idaho, cowboy was nearly there after his earnings reached $1,980,908 at the completion of the 2017 WNFR, but his earnings in the 2018 rodeo season pushed him over the mark and into the coveted club.

“There’s so much learning that happens as a guy gets some years in,” Shiozawa said in a prorodeo.com release. “You get some perspective and you start to understand a little bit more about the game you are actually playing. I’m excited to have passed that ($2 million mark). I learned how to make a living in rodeoing and provide for my family, and it’s great to get over the $2 million mark.”

2 Countries

The PRCA sanctioned events in two countries in March: the United States and Mexico. The association recently decided to sanction events in their neighboring country to the south and has had two events there—both in Chihuahua, Mexico—March 4 and earlier in the season on October 7-8.

6 Months

We have now completed six months of the 2018 PRCA rodeo season. The season officially kicked off October 1 with an Xtreme Bulls event in New Braunfels, Texas; the final rodeo on the schedule at this time is the Guadalupe County Fair and PRCA Rodeo in October.

37 Rodeos

There were 37 rodeos in the PRCA in the month of March. Of those 37 rodeos, four were Xtreme Bulls events and two were steer ropings.

90.5 Points

The highest marked saddle bronc ride of the year took place in March at 90.5 points. Brody Cress paired up with Frontier Rodeo’s “Maple Leaf” in Montgomery, Alabama, in the middle of the month. The previous high score was set all the way back in October in Billings, Montana, by Jesse Kruse with his 90-point score aboard Powder River Rodeo’s “Show Me Again."

The 2017 WNFR qualifier was the only competitor this month to post a new high score or fast time in the PRCA.

$19,121 Paycheck

Tyson Durfey won the largest paycheck of the month with his $19,121 from Rodeo Austin. Durfey won the long round, split the semifinal round with Rhen Richard, and then won the final round of competition.

The win moved Durfey into the No. 6 spot in standings, where he still resides at month’s end.

$97,970.69 In Season Earnings

Four-time world champion bull rider Sage Kimzey has earned more money this year than any other competitor in the PRCA. With $97,970.69 in earnings, he sits nearly $40,000 ahead of his closest competition and shows no signs of slowing down his four-year domination of the bull riding in the PRCA.

$1.9 Million Payout

Over $1,937,000 was paid out in the PRCA during the month of March to PRCA rodeo competitors; $2.17 million was also paid out by Rodeo Houston to professional rodeo competitors.
