When it comes to numbers, RFD-TV’s The American goes big: hundreds of contestants spread all over a large area of the U.S., Canada and even Brazil come together to compete for a huge payout that will be handed out in less than a week.

Here’s a look at how some of those numbers break down at The American in 2019:
1 Exciting New Partnership
RFD-TV’s The American announced in the spring of 2018 that it would be partnering with the PRCA to bring the “come-one, come-all” event under the professional rodeo sanctioning body. The event still allows virtually anyone with enough talent to qualify for the event, but PRCA competitors also received chances to qualify at sanctioned rodeos, and will have part of their earnings count toward the world standings for the first time in the event’s history—and we can’t wait to see those numbers roll in.
2-Day Finals
The finals has moved from its one-day format to an exciting new two-day format that will see the top 16 compete on March 2, the top eight coming back for one round on March 3 and then the top four competing again in the shootout round immediately after.
2 Millionaires
Bareback rider Richmond Champion became the first millionaire to walk out of the event in 2014, the inaugural year of The American.
The second competitor to win the full million would be three years in the making. Wade Sundell took home the entire million in 2016, not because he was a qualifier but because he won the event three years in a row.
Watch what Sundell had to say about that million, and all of the other big checks he earned at The American here:
6 Years
This will be the sixth year The American has taken place. FloRodeo will be streaming the breakaway roping and barrel racing slack, Feb. 25-27; the semifinals Feb. 27 to March 1 at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas; and the finals that goes down in Arlington at the AT&T Stadium, March 2- 3.

6.38 Seconds
Marty Yates has the setup at The American figured out, and the proof is in his constant ability to break the arena record each year he comes back. He raised the bar on the record two years ago with a run of 6.65 seconds, and did it again last year with his astonishing 6.38 second run.
90.75 Points
Both bareback rider Kaycee Feild aboard C5 Rodeo’s Virgil and saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell aboard Frontier Rodeo’s Maple Leaf have earned the highest scoring rides of the final four shootout round at 90.75 points each.
$85,000 Breakaway Roping Purse
In the event’s first appearance at The American, it will have a huge purse of $85,000 for the ladies who are able to make it to AT&T Stadium. That’s $50,000 for first, $20,000 for second, $10,000 for third and $5,000 for fourth.
Over $2 Million Payout
In a press conference this spring, Randy Bernard looked back on the conceptualization of this historic event six years ago.
“We sat right here [at AT&T Stadium] and announced this vision that we had, that we wanted to have $2 million up for a one-day rodeo and the arrows that came flying and the critics said it would never work and you’ll go broke trying it," he said today at AT&T Stadium.
Five years and $15 million later, he’s proud of what the event has become.
“It’s so fun to see that The American hasn’t become just another rodeo—it's become a household word in the sport of rodeo and the western culture and lifestyle,” Bernard said.
