With just two rodeos left in the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association's 2019 season, we've calculated that there are 30 cowboys and cowgirls left with a chance to get into the Canadian Finals Rodeo. They've been battling it out all season long, but for some that are either on the bubble or just below it, it will all come down to the Dallas Sunstrum Memorial Rodeo in Brooks, Alberta, and the Hanna Indoor Pro Rodeo in Hanna, Alberta, to see who will take the final few spots available in the top 12.

While we cannot stress enough that these calculations are UNOFFICIAL, we do try to make them as accurate as possible by comparing the payout from both Brooks and Hanna in 2018 to the entry numbers and purse in 2019 (deducting or adding a little money if the numbers are lower or higher this year) to estimate how much money is left to be won. We've also listed if a competitor has the required 15 rodeos during the season to be eligible for a CFR qualification, and made sure the ones that need to win to move into the top 12 are actually entered in the final two rodeos and therefore have given themselves a chance to win.

*Injuries are also a factor that we can't always accurately track, so there may be competitors in the top 12 who will not compete in the CFR therefore, opening up another spot.

So with that said, here is our best look at who is safe, whose spot could be in jeopardy, and who has a chance to make the trip to Red Deer, Alberta, for the 2019 Canadian Finals Rodeo.

Bareback: Jacob Stemo Hunting Last Bareback Spot

According to our calculations, there was just shy of $2,000 to be won in 2018 if a bareback rider won first place at both Hanna and Brooks last year. With two more entries in 2019, it should just reach that $2,000 mark for first at both events so we looked for any competitors that were less than $2,000 out of 12th place — Jacob Stemo came up as the only one with a shot to do so at just $879.45 behind current No. 12 Colin Adams (who is listed as No. 14 but due to two competitors above him not having their 15 rodeos, he will move up to the No. 12 spot). 

Steer Wrestling: Two Spots Up For Grabs Between Four Competitors

The steer wrestling is a totally different story than the bareback in that two competitors could be caught and there are four steer wrestlers behind them who can do it with approximately $2,700 up for grabs (three greater entries at each rodeo in 2019 vs 2018) if a competitor were to win first at both events over the last two weekends. Both Bridger Chambers (No. 11) and Brock Butterfield (No. 12) will be competing this weekend to defend their hard-earned spots from would-be CFR rookies Evan Spady (No. 13) and Denver Roy (No. 15), and CFR regulars Ty Miller (No. 14), and Tanner Milan (No. 16).

Team Roping: Prepare For A Dramatic Finish Among The Bottom Of The Pack

Both the heading and heeling races are fairly tight at the bottom of the pack, meaning these next two weekends will be dramatic for Canadian rodeo fans. There is approximately $2,200 (two fewer entries in 2019 vs 2018) up to grabs on each side of the team roping, meaning headers Trey Gallais (No. 13), Dustin Bird (No. 14), Roland McFadden (No. 15), Chad Evenson (No. 16), Brenten Hall (No. 17), and Jesse Popescul (No. 18) could have a chance, while bubble-man Kal Fuller and No. 11 Justin McCarroll could be caught. We've also listed No. 10, Brett Buss, as he could be caught, but it would be a long shot so he is fairly safe.

The heeling is similar to the heading in that there are quite a few competitors stacked closely together at the bottom who have a chance to move in, and a few above the 12-man threshold that could be in jeopardy. Heelers Mike Beers (No. 13), Tee Mcleod (No. 14), Chase Tryan (No. 15), Wyatt Eirikson (No. 16), Cole Davison (No. 17), Tristin Woolsey (No. 18), and Trent Tunke (No. 19) all have a chance to move up. On the other end of the spectrum, Devin Wigemyr (No. 12), Klay Whyte (No. 11) could be caught, and we've even marked Brett McCarroll as "fairly safe" instead of "safe" because of the tight races were seeing in this event.

Saddle Bronc Riding: Young Zweifel With A Chance To Make His First CFR

If you're going to make your first CFR, why not do it in dramatic fashion? That's just what it will be if Zweifel can get it done this weekend. The bronc rider has an outside chance at making it in with approximately $2,100 available to win if he sweeps both rodeos over the next two weekends (down a few bucks due to fewer entries in 2019).

Tie-Down Roping: Six Ropers With A Chance

The tie-down roping has many contestants that may have a chance to qualify over the next two weekends and a big part of that opportunity is due to a total of 16 extra entries between the two rodeos compared to last year's numbers. Because of this, we're putting the possible earnings to win both rodeos at approximately $3,000 and have included all competitors within that range. 

Barrel Racing: Spielman, Gerwatoski, & Skocdopole Have A Shot

There are two barrel racers in the top 12 who don't have enough rodeos to qualify for the CFR this year, meaning Rylee Trenholm (No. 14 on the list) is on the bubble. There are also three competitors behind her — Shelby Spielman (No. 15), Kim Gerwatoski (No. 16), and Diane Skocdopole (No. 17) — who can catch both Trenholm and Lynette Brodoway if things go their way this weekend and they win big chunks of the approximately $2,200 up for grabs if a competitor can win first place in both rodeos.

Bull Riding:

The bull riding is always a tough event to estimate because of the added factor of ground money, but for the sake of this calculation, we will assume that enough bull riders will cover their bulls to fill all of the placings. There should be about $2,500 up for grabs if a rider can win both events and that means both Shay Marks (No. 13) and Ardie Maier (No. 14) have a very good chance to move up and No. 11 Todd Chotowetz and No. 12 Zane Lambert's positions could be up for grabs. All four competitors are up in both rodeos over the next two weekends, so fans should prepare for some excitement as they solidify their positions.
