Reeves: ‘The Most Incredible Bonus’

After running 11 steers in six days, you'd think Matt Reeves might be tired, but there’s nothing like winning $433,333 to reenergize you. Reeves, who generally is never at a loss for words, had to take a moment to put his thoughts in order about winning that kind of money at RFD-TV’s The American, presented by Dish.

It meant his house could be paid off, he could buy more cattle for the pasture, and he could secure a future for his children with by far the biggest single paycheck he had received in his career.

“I passed a million dollars [in PRCA career earnings] at Sheridan last year and I won almost half that much today… that’s a hard thing to imagine,” said Reeves, who has been to the WNFR six times in his steer wrestling career.

While this money won’t count towards his PRCA earnings, Reeves called this the most incredible bonus he’s ever seen during the press conference, and says this event — along with other high-paying events in rodeo — points toward a great future for the sport.

“We’re not the big three, we’re not football, baseball, and basketball — we’re not,” he said. “But you know what, we have great fans, it’s a good entertainment value, and it’s going somewhere, it’s still going up.”
