We’ve watched them grind all season long to get to the bright lights of Las Vegas for the 2018 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Now only two rounds remain for competitors hoping to earn their spot in the history books and become world champions.
“I try not to poke my chest out too much but it’s hard not to when you conquer something like that,” said Shane O’Connell. Not only did the NFR rookie bareback rider win his first round buckle, but he did it in the eliminator pen.
What’s the biggest thing Tyler Waguespack learned from winning the 2016 world steer wrestling title? That he just might be good enough to win one.
The first half of the week was tough, but Taci Bettis is on a roll now. After knocking some barrels - a rarity for Bettis and her horse Smash - the barrel racer has turned things around by placing in the last four rounds, including winning round eight and earning her first NFR go-round buckle.
Bettis had some tough luck earlier in the week, but that all turned around when her lucky charm started leading her down the alley.
