As a cowboy, there’s no greater honor than winning your hometown rodeo. So it was no surprise when the crowd cheered just a little louder for Wacey Finkbeiner - who lives just down the road from Red Deer, Alberta - when he was introduced as the 2018 Canadian Champion bull rider.
When we spoke to Shane Hanchey before the first round of the 2018 Canadian Finals Rodeo he had two Canadian title under his belt and said he liked the sound of three. Well, after six rounds of competition, Hanchey got the job done and got to hear it for the first time.

It wasn't the easiest way to win a Canadian title. There was a bit of a hang-up with his horse in the run-up alley, so Clay Elliott had to scramble to action on the final day of the 2018 Canadian Finals Rodeo. He was hunting down a Canadian title and his closest competition, Zeke Thurtson, was winning the round with an 87.75-point ride.
“Now I get to be a Canadian Champion” - Scott Guenthner. This cowboy had some big shoes to fill after his father took home the most coveted title in Canadian rodeos in the 80’s, but Guenthner battled through some early round troubles to eventually take home his own Canadian title.

For the past two years in a row the partnership of Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler has been unstoppable on Canadian soil. Even though the pair had to scramble to make the 2018 Canadian Finals Rodeo, their talent let them walk away with their second consecutive Canadian title as a team and Simpson’s fourth title overall.
Callahan Crossley is one of the most humble cowgirls you will ever come across, but her times at CFR were anything but. At the close of the event’s inaugural stop in Red Deer, Alberta, Crossley had collected four go-round wins and her first Canadian title.

Callahan Crossley never stepped over the 14-second mark at the 2018 Canadian Finals Rodeo. In fact, by the end of the week, she was the only barrel racer to not break the 14-second barrier and now owns the three fastest times for the brand new home of the CFR.
The newly crowned Canadian champion bareback rider, Richmond Champion, gave a special message to his friend and fellow bareback rider J.R. Vezain during his interview. Vezain is currently recovering from a spinal injury he sustained near the end of the 2018 rodeo season.
